The New York Toy Fair was this weekend and tons of cool toys were on display for your adult action figure doll room! THEY ARE COLLECTIBLES DAMMIT! Moving on. Here are some of the awesome toys that were on display in our top ten recap!
Evil Dead 2: One of the horror greats and a true cult classic! Celebrating the 30th Anniversary of the iconic movie, NECA is proud to release a special 2-pack containing Hero Ash and Deadite Ed Getley action figures.
Hero Ash features the likeness of inimitable actor Bruce Campbell. Ash comes with a Necronomicon book that opens up, two alternate head sculpts, bone dagger, sawed off shotgun, and possessed deer head. Deadite Ed Getley comes with interchangeable heads, one of which comes apart to simulate his gruesome defeat by Ash’s chainsaw.
Each 7” scale action figure is highly detailed and fully poseable. The set comes in a deluxe 30th Anniversary window box with opening flap.
Last year Super 7 brought back M.U.S.C.L.E. figures with their Masters of the Universe spoof and this year they are bringing us Alien figs in the same likeness. For those of you that may not remember the original M.U.S.C.L.E. Men were little rubber wrestling figures that came in a trash can. Super 7 packaged the Masters of the Universe figures in the same packaging last year when they revealed them at SDCC 2016. You can also pick up Street Figher II, the first wave of Alien figures and more at the Super 7 Store Online.
If you are not familiar with the ReAction line of action figures they are made to look like the same figures from Kenner’s 1979 line of toys. One cool twist Super 7 brought to SDCC in 2015 were blind eggs. Inside each xynomorph egg was a surprise figure or alien much like Funko Mystery Mini blind boxes. They have brought those back this year but without the egg.
SUPER 7 TOXIC AVENGER REACTION FIGURES
These are another play on the Funko / Super 7 ReAction figure toy line. Many films have been given this retro treatment but one that has been overlooked it Troma’s Toxic Avenger! The new figures come in two colors and feel more like something from the Toxic Crusaders cartoon show for kids. These are the type of properties I am hoping to see more of. Still no Samara (Rings) or The Strangers, You’re Next Animals or Stranger Things action figures but I’m holding out hope in the future someone produces them!
MARVEL’S DR. STRANGE LIFESIZE (LOVE DOLL) STATUE
Okay, so it’s not really a sex doll. But for $9,000 I was kind of expecting it to be. This is a full life size replica of Marvel’s Doctor of Strange. Pretty cool.
The following characters will make the leap from action figures to cartoon characters:
• Black Falcon – Undead Warlord of Doom
• Robot Reaper – Robotic Harbinger of Death
• X-2 the Unknown – Mysterious Shadow Assassin
• Gas Phantom – Ethereal Specter of Evil
• Batula – Bat Prince of Darkness
• Snake Tut – Serpent God of Destruction
Super 7’s Brian Flynn had this to say about the new toys;
“We are really excited about the opportunity to share ‘The Worst’ ideas we have ever had with the world. Starting with toys, and now moving into animation, we look forward to having worse ideas with even worse partners to create ‘The Worst’ animation ever.”
This announcement is coming on the heels of their Masters of the Universe products from 2016 which ultimately led to a new MOTU cartoon they released on VHS (Teaming up with Rotten Rentals for the release.) We have word they will also be releasing episodes of The Worst animated series on VHS as well. More details as they come.
NECA 30th ANNIVERSARY ‘DREAM WARRIOR’ FREDDY ACTION FIGURE
Introducing a new quarter scale action figure celebrating the 30th anniversary of the cult classic Nightmare on Elm Street Part 3: Dream Warriors! This new Freddy Krueger figure stands 18” tall and features plenty of gruesome detail, like interchangeable heads and chests to recreate different parts of the movie. You can swap out his regular sweater front to display the tortured spirits trapped in his Chest of Souls, or switch up his regular “evil Freddy” head with a “crucifix head” with light piping effect! He’s equipped with over 25 points of articulation and comes in collector-friendly deluxe window box packaging.
I love Freddy but this is another property that just seems to keep getting recycled.
NECA is extremely excited to reveal the first in new series of action figure 2-packs inspired by classic comic book mash-ups! The first release in the “Versus” line comes from the 1997 Batman/Aliens comic book mini-series co-published by DC Comics and Dark Horse. In it, Batman faces strange new Aliens produced using DNA from some of Arkham Asylum’s deadliest inmates. The set includes two brand new, comic book based figures, both with over 30 points of articulation. Batman features a fabric cape, and the “Joker” Alien has a bendable tail. Window box packaging.
TEENAGE MUTANT NINJA TURTLES UNIVERSAL MONSTERS MASH-UP
Mash-ups have been all the rage lately from Mattel to indie toy companies like DKE. The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles have been doing it for years turning our favorite wacky characters into just about everything. This time they get the Universal Monsters treatment. We also so a few mashed-up with WWE wrestlers.
McFarlane revealed a few new Walking Dead toys that included a Negan and Glenn 2 Pack. While these are still prototypes there is no word yet if Glenn will come with a removable head. See what I did there?
So that wraps up our favorite stuff from Toy Fair 2017. What were some of your favorites? Sound off in the comment section below!
