History Repeats Itself In This Wonderfully Bonkers Trailer For ‘Happy Death Day 2U’

“If at first you should succeed, a sequel is almost inevitable.” That may not be an actual adage, but it proves to be true again and again, when it comes to the movie industry. Specially if you fall into the genre of horror. Even more so if you’re a Blumhouse production. Which makes it no surprised that 2017’s sleeper hit, Happy Death Day, is getting a follow-up. The aptly named Happy Death Day 2U. If this first trailer is any indication, it’ll blow the first one out of the water. Take a look.

Now, before we dive into discussing the footage, for completionists, here’s the official synopsis:

“Jessica Rothe leads the returning cast of HAPPY DEATH DAY 2U, the follow-up to Blumhouse’s (Split, Get Out, The Purge series) surprise 2017 smash hit of riveting, repeating twists and comic turns. This time, our hero Tree Gelbman (Rothe) discovers that dying over and over was surprisingly easier than the dangers that lie ahead.”

Often when it comes to “part 2” in a series, there’s the worry that the film makers run the risk of falling into a trap of repeating themselves. It would appear returning director Christopher Landon (who is also taking over writing duties) understands this notion all too well. The trailer not only looks bigger, but quite a bit more insane. Not only does Tree have another time loop to break, but she must also save everyone affected by the previous film’s events. More deaths, more locations and more insanity seems to be the name of the game here. There’s even some hints of Back To The Future and Scream in there too. Moving things into the realm of the sci-fi and meta, rather than just horror. Which, if you ask us, could be the potent combination that puts this film over the top. In the best sense possible.

What do you all think? Did you love the first film? Does this trailer significantly pique your interest? Can you open up your heart for sequel that appears to want to do nothing but have fun? Or are you still on the side of people who are against a (probably) PG-13 (quasi) horror flick? Shoot us a message in the comments section. We’ll be readying ourselves to fall back in love with dying over and over again, when Happy Death Day 2U hits theaters, next Valentine’s Day. Till then, enjoy this deliciously creepy poster for the movie.
